Standard Explore datasets have read-only access permissions for all Explore users. When you create custom datasets, you can configure access permissions for your agents. After users are added to their Explore account and their role is defined, they can choose which custom datasets they can view and change. This prevents your company information from going through unauthorized viewing or changes.
Read this article to learn about the various permissions available and how to set them for editors and administrators. To learn how to create users with editor and administrator roles, see Granting Agent Access to Explore.
Note: If you don't give the editor or administrator permissions for a dataset, they won't be able to view it, even if it's shared.
Setting editor permissions
Explore account owners and administrators can set dataset access permissions for publishers. If you have set at least one dataset permission for another administrator, that administrator is granted all permissions (creation, editing and saving of queries, metrics and attributes) for the dataset. If you don't set permissions for the administrator, he won't be able to access the dataset. However, since administrators can manage datasets, they can visit the permissions page and modify their own permissions. To ensure that an administrator cannot modify datasets, change their role from Explore to Editor or, if you are using Support Enterprise, configure a custom Explore role in Explore > What can this agent do in Explore? to Create reports.
How to set permissions for editors
In Explore, click the Admin icon. () in the left sidebar.
On the admin page, click the Publisher Authorizations icon.
Click the Publisher Permissions drop-down menu above your list of custom datasets. Default datasets are not displayed in the list.
On the Dataset Authorizations page, choose the editor for which you want to set permissions.
Note: only users who have already accessed the Explore instance will be displayed in the list.
Check the checkboxes next to the permission settings you want to use for the different datasets.
Choose from the options:
Can preview: The editor can preview the dataset and queries created from the dataset (view only).
Can save queries: The editor can create, update and delete queries created from the dataset.
Can edit: The editor can create calculated elements and edit each element's data structure in a dataset.
Can edit datasets: The editor can rename datasets and select other datasets.
Or choose Select All.
When finished, just exit the page. Changes are automatically saved.
